Liz Oliver, 33, is only recently divorced from her husband, Ron, 36. It was just over 16 years ago that the birth of their daughter, COREY, brought them to the altar. Liz has always loved her husband, but she has always questioned whether he married her because he truly loved her or because, as a parent, it was his duty. His affair last year was all the proof her doubting heart needed to give her the strength to walk away. Now Liz and Corey live with Liz's father, PETE, a 78-year-old World WAR II Marine Corps veteran with the medals and war wounds to prove it. Pete and Liz run the family jewelry store and dote over Corey as she tries to make her way through adolescence.
Nick, 46, is an ex-con with two strikes against him. He's a calculating, cunning thief with absolutely no conscious. His younger brother, Doc, 43, is a cold-blooded killer who will do anything his brother asks. These two are hardened beyond salvation and willing to do whatever is necessary to stay out of prison. They have teamed up with Jimmy, 23, a lifetime criminal in the making.
As Liz and Pete are closing the jewelry store one night they find themselves face to face with Nick, Doc and Jimmy. But Pete, being the irascible old soldier that he is, thwarts their attempt to steal all their jewels by closing the safe door which, once closed, can not be opened again until 10 am the following day. Nick has only two options. Either he and his fellow cohorts on crime leave empty-handed or he kidnaps Liz and Pete and returns to the jewelry store the following morning. Nick chooses to kidnap Liz and Pete, take them to Pete's house and return to the store the following morning.
Corey and her father get into an argument at dinner that night and she makes him take her back to Pete's house. Once there they are both taken captive and Ron, in an attempt to rescue his ex-wife and daughter, is severally beaten. The Oliver family is together again but not the way any of them wanted. This unusual situation forces Liz and Ron to finally confront the real issues of their marriage.
Ron and Liz realize that it will be up to her to save her family from sure death at the hands of these desperate criminals. Summoning up the courage she never knew she had, and with the help of her father and husband, Liz leads her family out of harm's way. 'Cornered' is story of true grit in the face of insurmountable odds and an example of the power of 'family'.
